Chapter 335: We Have A New Problem.
Angela slowly nodded as they continued walking again.
"I am actually happy it is Alex," she admitted softly. "He has been avoiding me lately."
Stales gave her a look.
"Avoiding you? After the Harvest Moon night, does your father even allow anybody near you?"
Angela sighed softly.
"I cannot blame him. He is just trying to protect me."
"I guess so," Stales muttered.
As they got closer to his house, his expression changed again like he was trying to figure out how to break another bad piece of news to her.
"I still have more news," he finally said. "Samuel is the Alpha now. Well... acting Alpha."
Angela’s brows furrowed at his words.
As they passed the house, her eyes lingered on it for a moment, and memories rushed into her mind so suddenly that her chest tightened.
She remembered the first night Renn called her into his room. That night had changed everything between them. He had gone from being the cold and annoying senior she hated to someone she loved deeply.
Her mate.
A faint smile slowly appeared on her face as she remembered the little moments they shared together. The way he picked her up from the gym and brought her to his room. The way he looked at her like she mattered more than anyone else.
"You are thinking about him again, right?" Stales asked gently as they walked past the house.
The smile on Angela’s face faded slightly.
"I am sorry about your mate," he continued quietly. "Renn did not resume this semester. He is deferring it. I heard Alex saying he moved to another town."
Angela stopped walking again.
"What?"
Her voice came out almost as a whisper.
"Are you serious right now?" she asked, staring at him in disbelief. She could not tell if he was joking or telling the truth.
Because if it was true, then Renn really left without even seeing her first.
"This is not a joke," Stales said softly. "Remember he wanted to leave before, but you convinced him to stay. After everything that happened during the Harvest Moon night, I guess he changed his mind again."
Angela nodded slowly even though her chest hurt badly.
So Renn really left.
Just like that.
Did he not think about how she would feel? Did he not want to stay close to her anymore? She knew he planned to stop the semester before, but she never imagined he would leave Mistvale completely.
"I think it is better this way," she whispered.
Stales looked at her with disbelief.
"I cannot believe you are saying that."
There was pain in his voice too. He hated seeing his friends fall apart one after another, but there was nothing he could do except accept their choices.
"I have my reasons, Stales," Angela said quietly. "I just cannot deal with all of this right now."
"I understand, buddy."
They continued walking past the houses. Stales purposely kept the conversation moving so she would not think about Taros too much.
He told her Taros was now in charge of the morning road work and was doing surprisingly well at it.
"What about Hiro?" Angela finally asked when they got close to the Central House.
"They said he resumed a few days ago," Stales replied, "but nobody has seen him except Kael. He stays locked inside his room all day."
Angela felt a deep sadness settle inside her.
Out of all of them, Hiro was probably taking everything the hardest. He was the youngest, the most emotional, and the one who depended on the group the most.
She wanted to ask Stales if he had Kael’s contact, but suddenly her stomach twisted painfully.
She stopped walking immediately.
"Angela?"
Stales looked alarmed when he noticed her face turning pale. He quickly rushed away and returned with a bottle of water.
"Are you sick?"
"Not really," Angela muttered as she took the bottle from him.
Instead of drinking it, she poured some water on her face slowly. The coolness helped a little, but the dizziness remained.
"I have been feeling strange lately," she admitted. "I threw up yesterday. I also had a headache and fever, but I took some pills and it calmed down." She looked at him weakly. "Do you think the medicine did not work?"
But Stales was no longer listening properly.
He stared at her silently, his eyes slowly widening like her words had just triggered something inside his head.
His mind raced with dangerous thoughts he was too afraid to say out loud.
"Say something."
Still no response.
"I am talking to you, Stales."
Angela had already finished washing her face and wiping her mouth. Around them, students were being dropped off by their parents in front of the hostel. A few of them stared at her in surprise. They knew her from the West House, so seeing her here made no sense to them.
"I am sorry," Stales finally said, snapping out of his thoughts. "I got confused."
He quickly took her box and walked into the dormitory.
Angela followed him inside. Her new room was on the second floor. It was smaller than what she was used to, but at least she only had three roommates.
"How do you feel?" Stales asked as he placed the box down.
"I am fine," Angela replied while looking around the room. It felt strange and unfamiliar. Nothing about it reminded her of the place she used to share with Kaito. "I know this is not what we expected, but we will manage."
"What do you think?" she asked after a moment.
Stales closed the door slowly and looked at the three beds in the room. He hesitated for a while like he was holding back too much.
"I think it would be stupid for you to stay here," he said at last. "Not just because you are a girl. But because you are a pregnant mate of the Alphas."
Silence filled the room immediately.
Angela froze.
Her eyes slowly lifted to his face as if she did not hear him well.
"What did you just say?"
