Chapter 358: Falling Into Trap
Chapter 358: Falling Into Trap
Elder Huo turned to look at his daughter, who was eyeing the prince, and a satisfied smile etched on his lips. Now that Huo Qing had listened to his suggestion, the mer, even if he wanted to, wouldn’t be able to escape. His plan was foolproof. And though it was daring and risky, it only made the chances of things working out even higher. Because even in his wildest dreams, Rong Xian would never imagine someone taking such a risk all for the sake of making him imprint on Huo Qing.
The riskier the plan, the chances of succeeding were just as high.
Elder Huo was quite relaxed. He believed that with his plan alone, he would surely be able to win this bet.
The more he thought, the smugger he became, and in the end, he could not help but smirk. Seeing this, the person next to him could not help but say, "Elder Huo, you seem to be quite satisfied with something. Is there some sort of good news?"
"Soon." Elder Huo smiled mysteriously and replied with a sneaky grin as if he knew something the other person did not, which only made the elder even more confused. What was going on? Why was elder Huo acting all sneaky? Was there some sort of trick up his sleeve? The elder was both confused and suspicious, but he could not understand what was going on in the mind of the mer. Earlier this morning, he looked like he was about to lose his damn mind, but now he was all smiling and giggly as if he had hunted some big prey that could feed the tribe for more than three weeks.
Of course, the idea of Elder Huo even thinking of hunting prey was simply out of this world. How could this mer even think of hunting something, and even if he did hunt something, the chances of him sharing it with the tribe were closer to none? This mer would rather let the meat rot than give it to the tribe.
The elder was left confused, but Elder Huo did not care about it. He was looking at Rong Xian with a smile on his lips as if he were looking at a trophy that was soon going to follow him home.
Rong Xian sensed that someone was looking at him, but when he turned to look at the person behind her, he did not see anyone. He frowned and wondered what was going on. Just now, he was sure that he felt someone looking at her. But now that he was looking around, he could not find anyone. Was it really his imagination? Rong Xian did not believe it, but at the moment, since he could not see anyone, he could only take it as his mind playing a game with him.
He turned his attention back to Ruan Chanchan, who was speaking to his mother, and his gaze could not help but soften. This woman really had some skills. The drink that she made was really good. Ruan Chanchan said that it was a fizzy drink, and Rong Xian had no better way to describe it. Because the drink was indeed fizzy—it made him think of those poisonous beasts that he had once eaten, and they popped inside his mouth, minus the pain of his flesh burning.
He was quite satisfied with this thing, and given the look in the eyes of his mother, she was just as satisfied with the thing that Ruan Chanchan had given to her. And his suspicions turned out to be true because the next second, he heard his mother say in a loud, booming voice, "Everyone, let’s start the banquet!"
The scouts had learned how to make the dishes that Ruan Chanchan had taught them by heart, and it did not take long for them to mimic those dishes and create an exceptional feast for the entire tribe. The crayfish, as well as the steamed fish, was just as good as Ruan Chanchan had cooked in the past.
Ruan Chanchan, who took a bite of the steamed fish, was quite satisfied. It seemed like these people had learnt how to use ginger and lemon quite well. Now this alone could stabilise her supply of ginger and lemons! She was quite happy with just this alone.
"Ruan Chanchan, you taught us these things. Are you not afraid that people in your tribe will be angry?" Although Rong Xian was glad that Ruan Chanchan had taught these things to his tribe, he was also worried that Ruan Chanchan would be punished by the chief of their tribe because she shared her skills with their tribe. After all, he knew that even if Ruan Chanchan was the one who had these skills, ultimately, these things were taken as the property of the tribe. Ruan Chanchan had not only taught them how to cook, but she had also helped them by making kang.
"Don’t worry, these skills are my own, and no one taught me anything. And what’s more, we do not have any supply of fresh seafood in our tribe; since that is the case, even if I teach these things to you and your tribe, nothing will change. As for the kang, we don’t need it as compared to your tribe. Even if the elders want to make trouble, they have to look at the alliance that I have brought them."
She paused and then added in a soft voice, "I just hope that the alliance talk won’t fall through." This was the only thing that she was worried about. After all, she was not the chief of the tribe, so she could not ask for the oath from the queen. Ruan Chanchan could only wait for Chief Xie to arrive and deal with this problem.
"Don’t worry; as long as I am alive, the oath of alliance will not break through." He did not know what would happen after he died but he wouldn’t let Ruan Chanchan when he was alive.
